I added a post in the middle!
I went back and added the Elites SHOW performance. It is in the middle of all the dance competition videos. It is such a long one that it took a while for BlogSpot to upload and process. Hope you enjoy!

March 2009 Awards Ceremony
The awards are given out as Queen, 1st Attendant, 2nd Attendant and so on. For this year's Utah competition, Makenna placed as the 1st Attendant in the Intermediate Preschool/Kindergarten division. She competed this year in the intermediate division because she won the Queen title last year at all three of the amateur competitions she was in. We are so very proud of her hard work and confidence that she displayed. It was definitely a "Makenna Day." She had a blast dancing ALL day and we had a really fun day watching her.
Competitions and friends go hand in hand!
Makenna adores her solo teacher and has a wonderful group of friends that she dances with. As an added bonus, I have have become good friends with their moms.
Makenna's March 2009 Solo
Makenna did a great job with her solo. She competed in the Intermediate Preschool/Kindergarten division. At the very beginning she got a little confused and stopped her layout. Then, she relaxed and pulled the rest together. I was nervous and at one point in the video got caught up in watching her. I forgot to move the camera for a couple seconds. The studio director calls this first competition a "dress rehearsal". I think that goes for the moms too!

We got to the gym early so that Makenna could practice her walk-in, stretch out and so Mommy could take some pictures of her in costume.

Jayden's book report on Treasure Island
The class was assigned an oral book report that was to be presented in character. The students could be interviewed, reenact a scene, etc. Jayden and his friend chose to write a skit. In the skit, they are sailing along discussing all of their adventures. They did this in front of two classes (50 students) and their teachers.

It's a girl for the Martin family!!!
Please meet the latest addition to join our family. Coconut Lime Martin. Daddy was in class and Mommy fell for the begging and arguments like, "Makenna does not have one in her room". The next thing I knew we were the proud owners of a baby guinea pig. She really is quite cute with her tan/grey fur and pink eyes. Three years ago I never would have said that or even touched a guinea pig. Kids teach you joy in many things!

Jayden is playing in the Jr. Jazz basketball league.
It has been fun to watch Jayden play a sport that involved his hands after so many months of just soccer. In the beginning it looked kind of awkward, but then he pulled it together, and became very comfortable with the ball. Jayden has also been playing Futsal (an indoor soccer game played on a basketball court. That was a new and fun experience that has taught him more foot/ball control. I once again played the slacker mom role and forgot the camera for all eight of those games.

Makenna's front tooth... BEFORE AND AFTER
Makenna and I were joking that her tooth moved to the center and just kind of hung there like Igor. She giggled and giggled over it. I love that she is a person who can laugh at herself with a light heart.

Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Lakers
Makenna danced at the Jazz versus Lakers game. Their studio performed the pregame show.

We had a mommy/daughter night. It was so much fun. The game was very close all the way through. The next day my arms were sore from holding her up and dancing. She was so overcome with joy that she threw her arms around me and said, "Thank you for staying, this is soooo much fun!" A lot of the girls left after they performed and she was able to appreciate that we hung around to watch the whole game.
When we got home it was pretty late. Jayden and Devon went to our friends' house and Matt picked them up when he got out of school. The game was recording on our DVR, so Matt put it on to see if they could sneak a peek of their sister's performance. The boys tried to stay awake and wait for their sister to get home, but sleep prevailed.

Jayden enjoying the new Warriors book
Jayden got the new Warriors book titled, "Long Shadows". We didn't hear much from him until he finished it. I take great pleasure in seeing the kids totally consumed by a book.Sunday, February 1, 2009
Super Bowl Sunday
Super Bowl was a good excuse to lay around, eat foods we normally wouldn't and in Makenna's case, take a nap.
