Makenna was on FOX 13 News

The dance studio that Makenna attends was visited by Big Budah from FOX 13 News. A few of the girls were chosen by their teachers to dance for the broadcast and Makenna was one of them. She had to be there at 6:30 in the morning. She was so excited that the early time didn't phase her in the least. I walked into her room at 5:15 am and said, "Makenna it's time to wake up." Her eyes popped right open and she very excitedly said, "Yeah!"

She runs out in blue towards the fron left-hand side of the screen. It focuses on her for a couple of seconds.

Let her know what you think. She loves comments and was so excited about this.

One of the wonderful things about summer...

Club Starville Pioneers

This weeks lesson at Club Star was on the Utah Pioneers. The kids started the day with a Pioneer Day parade around the neighborhood.

Next, they played games that the Pioneer children enjoyed. Like three-legged races, wheel barrel races and leap frog.

The kids all made items that children used to make when they had extra materials. They had their choice of making a baseball, a bag for marbles or a corn husk doll.

Even treats required a lot of work before you could enjoy them. The kids pulled their own piece of taffy, ate hard tac, tasted rock candy and sampled beef and buffalo jerky. All of which, I might add, was made safe for the food allergic "pioneer" children.

It was a fun, hands-on lesson.

Jayden hit double digits! He's TEN!!!! 7/22/08

Uncle Danny, Aunt Trish and the girls brought over a lawn dart set for Jayden's birthday. He loved it!
The night started out a little disappointing for Jayden. The power went out for close to 2 hours. We had planned dinner and the events around all of Jayden's personal requests. These included baking dinner and a DVD player. Both things can be quite challenging with out electricity. Happy day! The power came back on just as we were losing hope. Since we had already had cupcakes at Jayden's party, I made a "safe" chocolate cream pie. We enjoyed it after the dinner of his request, Shepard's Pie. Then it was time for what we call "family movie night". We watched Daddy Day Camp.

I can't believe our baby boy is ten. He is the sweetest, most mellow little man, who is so emotionally wise beyond his years. I love him in ways I lack the words for. Thank you Jayden for the pleasure of being your mommy.

Bella's 9th Tie-Dye Birthday Party

Bella had a tie-dye birthday party this year. The kids all went home with their own t-shirts that they designed themselves.

Totally Makenna!

Makenna received these fake nails for her birthday. They are just the kind of thing that she loves. As a mom I thought they were pretty perfect too! They pressed on with an already attached glue dot type of adhesive. Which meant an easy and gentle removal. She got to sparkle and they didn't damage her real nails.

Jayden's Olympic themed birthday party

For Jayden's 10th birthday party, he wanted an Olympic theme. He chose his favorite games from his school's field day and we recreated the even Jayden style. We divided the kids up into two teams. The Black Pearls and the Orange Flames. The day started with a friendly game of tug-of-war, with the losing team falling into a pool of water. Then the kids played monster volleyball. We took a water break so that the kids had plenty of energy for water bomb dodge ball. Last, but not least, a wet and wild game of kick ball. The kids jumped into a pool of water at first base and slid home on a slip and slide. It was a fun day and the kids stayed nice and cool.

Club Star: Tour of the Burn Unit and Air Med

While at our Club Star camping trip the kids received a lesson on First Aid and Emergency Preparedness. To follow up on their lesson, we toured the hospital burn unit and Air Med. The kids got to see where operations are
performed, the physical therapy room and the inside of an Air Med helicopter. Devon even got strapped in as though he was injured and about to fly in for treatment. The kids were definitely impressed and learned a lot.

Drive-in Movies

We took the kids to the drive-in to see WALL-EE and Journey to the Center of the Earth. It was a really hot night, but the kids didn't seem to notice. We threw on pajamas, popped some popcorn and filled water bottles. Then we set off for a little movie magic. Jayden and Matt played frisbee until it was time for the movies to start.
