Makenna's 2011 Solo

Makenna performed her 2011 dance solo a couple of times this spring. It seems that at each competition there was some sort of recording issue. On this particular occasion, I never got the camera in focus and I got so into watching her that I would forget to move the camera as she moved across the floor. She did a great job. We are so proud of our baby girl who we have trouble believing is 8!

Makenna was in the parade with her dance friends. Her brothers gathered candy from the sidelines.

After the parade, she performed in the park.

Las Vegas Dance Spectacular 2009

Makenna and I met Nana and Grampa in Las Vegas. Grampa said watching his little grand-daughter dance brought tears to his eyes. Having Nana and Grampa there made the trip even more special. We are so glad you guys made the trip.

Makenna placed as "Second Attendant in the Intermediate Kindergarten Las Vegas Dance Spectacular competition". She struggled the most with her solo this competition. She forgot/left out three of her biggest moves. We were still thrilled with her confidence and grace as she kept going and acted as though nothing happened. Way to go Makenna!!!

National Dance Spectcular Solo 2009

Makenna won the title, "National Dance Spectacular Intermediate Preschool/Kindergarten Division Queen"

March 2009 Awards Ceremony

The awards are given out as Queen, 1st Attendant, 2nd Attendant and so on. For this year's Utah competition, Makenna placed as the 1st Attendant in the Intermediate Preschool/Kindergarten division. She competed this year in the intermediate division because she won the Queen title last year at all three of the amateur competitions she was in. We are so very proud of her hard work and confidence that she displayed. It was definitely a "Makenna Day." She had a blast dancing ALL day and we had a really fun day watching her.

Competitions and friends go hand in hand!

Makenna adores her solo teacher and has a wonderful group of friends that she dances with. As an added bonus, I have have become good friends with their moms.

Makenna's March 2009 Solo

Makenna did a great job with her solo. She competed in the Intermediate Preschool/Kindergarten division. At the very beginning she got a little confused and stopped her layout. Then, she relaxed and pulled the rest together. I was nervous and at one point in the video got caught up in watching her. I forgot to move the camera for a couple seconds. The studio director calls this first competition a "dress rehearsal". I think that goes for the moms too!

2009 dance competition season begins...

We got to the gym early so that Makenna could practice her walk-in, stretch out and so Mommy could take some pictures of her in costume.

We went and watched Liz's recital

Tonight we got to attend Liz's Christmas recital. There was an added bonus. Anna and Rachel were dancing too. Makenna wrote Liz a note and gave her flowers. I think doing that excited her as much as watching the performance. Liz, Rachel and Anna were beautiful dancers.
Santa made a surprise visit at the end of Liz's recital too.

Makenna's 2008 Christmas recital

Makenna had her first performance as a member of the Tiny Elites. She was totally in her element and had a blast. The evening was all the more special because of the wonderful people in our life who came to watch. Thank you for coming and sharing another memorable moment in our family's life.

***You can pause the music at the bottom of the blog so that you can hear the videos.

Santa hung out and took pictures with the kids

Makenna had the perfect night. Dancing, loved ones, and flowers. What more could a girl want?

Makenna starts Elites

Makenna was asked to join the Elites at her dance studio. Elites is the advanced show team. Her group is the Tiny Elites. They range in age from 5 to 8. Makenna was beyond tickled when she received the news. She woke up today saying, "I can't believe today is my first day of Elites." The class was definitely more challenging. They focus a lot more on individual technique. On the ride home she was telling me it was hard work, but she loved it.

Makenna was on FOX 13 News

The dance studio that Makenna attends was visited by Big Budah from FOX 13 News. A few of the girls were chosen by their teachers to dance for the broadcast and Makenna was one of them. She had to be there at 6:30 in the morning. She was so excited that the early time didn't phase her in the least. I walked into her room at 5:15 am and said, "Makenna it's time to wake up." Her eyes popped right open and she very excitedly said, "Yeah!"

She runs out in blue towards the fron left-hand side of the screen. It focuses on her for a couple of seconds.

Let her know what you think. She loves comments and was so excited about this.

Fourth of July 2008

As part of our annual tradition, we gathered with friends to watch the local Fourth of July parade.
When the parade ends, we all walk over to the park and watch Makenna dance. This year we were especially lucky to have Nana, Grampa and Aunt Dana with us.

Disclaimer: Although I have been present through Makenna's rehearsals and knew that the summer program was hip hop I was still surprised by the songs lyrics and the dance moves. Makenna was oblivious, but I was shocked. I should have known that they do not sing about butterflies and rainbows in hip hop. I learned to appreciate it for what it was. I enjoyed watching Makenna do something that she absolutely loves.
