National Night Out on August 5th

Devon's karate class moved to the park for the National Night Out. They gave a demonstration for all of the spectators. It was a night of fun and safety.


The kids got to pose with the one and only (yeah, right) McGruff the Crime Dog.

One of our friends took this picture of Makenna yesterday while we were on our field trip. I thought it was too adorable not to share.

Club Star: This Is The Place field trip

This weeks Club Star field trip was to This Is The Place Monument and Park. It is a simulated town that is run and operated like they did when the Pioneers were alive. They have original houses and cabins that have been moved to the site. There are people acting as tins smith, mothers, teachers, etc. for a very hands-on involved experience. Even in 100+ degree weather it was very enjoyable.

Matt and Kim's first vacation alone in over 10 years!!!

Matt and I went on our first vacation alone in over 10 years. This is us as we were heading out the door for the airport. Destination: San Diego, California

We dropped the kids off with friends on July 27th and picked them up on July 31st.

Four days and four nights alone!

We took a tour of the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier. This was my favorite stop on our trip. If you don't count our hotel room (Shhh!!)
Matt showed me the cramped sleeping conditions he had while out to sea. There are three bunks on top of each other in less than 6 feet!
Matt would have to wait in line and receive his food in an area like this.
Matt went on a simulated FA-!8 flight. This was the kind of plane he worked on.

When Matt was in the Navy, he was a Plane Captain. This shows what he had to wear while working on a 120+ degree flight deck.

Makenna was on FOX 13 News

The dance studio that Makenna attends was visited by Big Budah from FOX 13 News. A few of the girls were chosen by their teachers to dance for the broadcast and Makenna was one of them. She had to be there at 6:30 in the morning. She was so excited that the early time didn't phase her in the least. I walked into her room at 5:15 am and said, "Makenna it's time to wake up." Her eyes popped right open and she very excitedly said, "Yeah!"

Club Starville Pioneers

This weeks lesson at Club Star was on the Utah Pioneers. The kids started the day with a Pioneer Day parade around the neighborhood.

Next, they played games that the Pioneer children enjoyed. Like three-legged races, wheel barrel races and leap frog.




The kids all made items that children used to make when they had extra materials. They had their choice of making a baseball, a bag for marbles or a corn husk doll.


Even treats required a lot of work before you could enjoy them. The kids pulled their own piece of taffy, ate hard tac, tasted rock candy and sampled beef and buffalo jerky. All of which, I might add, was made safe for the food allergic "pioneer" children.


It was a fun, hands-on lesson.
